Background

The La Yesca Hydroelectric Project is part of the Santiago Hydrologic system, which comprises 27 projects with a hydro energetic potential of 4,300 MW.  Regarding this system, only 32% has been developed, and it is evidenced by the construction of six stations. La Yesca ranks second in power and third in generation, after the Aguamilpa-Solidaridad Station and El Cajón.

Basic studies on site proved the viability of the project and lead to more specific studies to gather topographic, geologic, geotechnical, social and environmental information of the area.

Its dam will contribute to regulate the overflow on its Basin area and will be of benefit to El Cajon and Aguamilpa Stations receiving in its basin the regulated contributions of the river, increasing its firm power and decreasing pouring out probabilities on the spillway.

This use will allow electric energy generation through two units of 375 MW each one.

A mean annual generation of 1,210 GWh has been forseen.
